Advanced Prescription Hearing Aid Technology Delivers Enormous Benefits

For more than 20 years, Dan Morehouse and his team have fit rescription hearing aids to thousands of ears. We have firsthand knowledge of how hearing technology has rapidly progressed over the past decade. Many people cling to the outdated stigma of prescription hearing aids based on the ugly, bulky, and heavy devices of the past, but today’s hearing aid technology is worlds away from what it was. Smaller, lighter, more stylish and discreet, and even invisible are among the innovations associated with modern hearing aids.

Today’s devices pack powerful performance that was unheard of a couple of decades ago. In addition to providing more natural-sounding clarity, modern devices include features that control background noise in various environments along with a host of advanced features such as long-lasting rechargeable batteries and the capacity to stream music and phone calls directly from your cell phone to your hearing device using Bluetooth. Today’s technology goes beyond amplifying your hearing to amplify your quality of life.

There are many types of hearing aids that vary in cost, design, and features.

We can help find the one that best fits your unique needs such as:

  • The severity of your hearing loss (power requirements)
  • Your manual dexterity and visual capabilities
  • Your budget
  • Your cosmetic and discretion concerns
  • Your skin sensitivities
  • Your anatomical/medical considerations

Schedule a Hearing Assessment

A complete hearing assessment is your first step toward regaining the independent and rewarding lifestyle you are missing due to hearing loss. An open and honest discussion about your hearing issues with a hearing care professional along with the right testing makes it possible to provide hearing care solutions that fit your unique circumstances. If you or a loved one has hearing challenges, your best solution is to schedule a hearing assessment to find out why.

Prescription Hearing Aid Styles

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)

BTE hearing aids have a similar design to older analogue hearing aids, but don’t let that fool you. These units offer the most flexible, adaptable, and powerful technology available packaged in a much lighter and more streamlined case that fits snugly on your ear. Custom formed earmolds provide a more comfortable fit in your outer ear and open-canal earpieces eliminate the “plugged up” feeling some users experience. Processed sound arrives in the earpiece through discrete acoustic tubing. Easy adjustment with simple controls allows you to adjust program settings and the volume level to match your environment.

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)

Mini BTEs fit behind the ear just like BTE units, but they use ultra-thin tubing to discreetly route sound into the ear. The soft tip at the end of the tubing sits in the ear canal but doesn’t occlude it. This helps to produce a more natural, open feeling as airflow and sound enter the ear naturally around the tip, while amplified sound enters through the tip. “Open fitting” works best for individuals with mild to moderate high frequency losses.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)

RITE hearing aids are a modification of BTE devices, which provide a comfortable, open-fit design suited for nearly all types of hearing loss. The technology in RITE devices is housed in a hard plastic shell that sits comfortably on the ear, but the speaker of the instrument is incorporated in the ear tip, instead of in the main body of the instrument. Similar to the Mini BTE, they are smaller, lighter weight, but pack more powerful technology to serve those with a mild to severe hearing loss.

In-The-Ear (ITE)

ITE instruments place BTE and RITE technology inside a hard plastic shell, which is molded to the unique contours of your outer ear canal. Full-shell in-the-ear technology produces powerful, clear sound for all degrees of treatable hearing loss and is a good choice for individuals who wear glasses or use an oxygen cannula because there is no interference behind the ears. Ease of adjustment, larger batteries with a longer life, rechargeability, and device connectivity as well as a variety of sizes, color options, and customizable controls are features of ITE devices.

In-The-Canal (ITC)

ITC hearing aids are smaller versions of ITE devices. They are custom-molded to fit further into the ear canal rather than take up the larger outer ear area. They provide the same benefits enjoyed by ITE users who wear glasses, an oxygen cannula, or hats. ITC devices allow you to be a bit more active because they fit more snugly and stay put while offering more wearing discretion. Individuals with all types of treatable hearing loss can benefit from this style, which includes the capacity to customize external controls to fit your needs.

Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC)

Going deeper, CIC devices are molded to fit deeper into the ear canal than ITC devices. They use a tiny clear plastic post for placement and removal, which requires some fine-dexterity, but they still pack some powerful technology. Subtle, comfortable, and discreet, CIC devices provide a snug fit that’s ideal for activity-filled days with friends and family. The deeper fit helps to reduce wind interference for more natural hearing and greater clarity. All levels of treatable hearing loss can take advantage of these super discrete hearing instruments.

Invisible-In-the-Canal (IIC)

Custom molded for a snug fit near the second bend of the ear canal, IIC hearing aids are 100% invisible, digital, and fully programmable. They pack clarity and power into the tiniest of packages, allowing the greatest level of discretion and serve those with a very active lifestyle. The most advanced sound-processing and noise-reduction technology with automatic environment adjustment are features of these devices. Individuals with all but the most severe degrees of hearing loss qualify for this style of device.
